In most tracks, the band drapes itself in the affects of ’50s chamber pop – handclaps, tambourines, “Be My Baby” drums – but carefully considered shifts within songs supply spades of inventiveness. “All Alone” adds layers of instrumental tracks, strips itself down, then piles the sound back on to cathartic effect. The chorus of “Vampire Graffiti,” with its ascending and descending piano notes and top-of-the-world vocals, is like crack for your ears … in a good way.
the record shows a band brimming with ideas and meticulous enough to fully realize them. - Ryan B. Martinez
