Billions of years ago, four beings of light were placed in the center of the planet Earth. According to the prophecy, The Great Quickening would bring about the destruction of Earth, via a collision with a star called “Nemesis.”

On the Third Day of The Great Quickening, the planet awoke the four beings within, to protect it from the oncoming Nemesis. Quickly, the four scoured the earth for humans that would be suitable enough to embody them. Upon possession of these four humans, however, it was collectively realized that the Nemesis could not be stopped in the time allotted to them. In Earth’s final minutes of existence, the four earthlings fled the planet on an infamous hyperspace pilot’s spacecraft. From the cold comfort of space, the four watched as their planet, their home was destroyed.

Those four beings are the members of The Sailing. This is the beginning of their story and their quest to bring about the resurrection of Earth.

IMPORTANT: The Sailing, from Dayton, Ohio, came together in early 2002. They make beautiful, lush, epic and often violently intense music inspired by a multitude of sounds that range from 8-bit video game compositions to the post-rock and shoegazer movements to Brit-pop to Scandinavian metal. Intricate patterns woven by wet, swirling guitar leads and innocent piano and vocal melodies give way to a surging cavalcade of synths echoing off volcanic walls of disorted guitar, reinforced by a relentless thunderstorm of bass and drums.
