WEST OF EDEN

Dublin, Ireland

about +
The road to West of Eden hasn't been a clear cut track. In fact, like many, it's been a tough, winding and confusing affair. Like all good scripts there have been the unexpected and expected twists, the reshuffling of band members, the reinvented sound, the usual band name changes and the developing love affair. The script had it all, but it was, however, from this love affair that West of Eden came to be. Originally having met in Ballyfermot music college, Dublin born singer, Cindy O’ Keeffe and Wicklow Singer Songwriter, Kenn Davis have since been slowly developing and quietly forming West of Eden. In the current music that this duo has been making over the past year this absence of pressure is clearly noted. West of Eden happened as a result of two people falling in love and continues to grow in the same way it came to be; by chance. During the eighteen months of the duo’s musical lifespan perhaps the most crucial and poignant factor has been the switching of roles. Initially it was Songwriter, Davis who led the fray vocally and lyrically with O’ Keeffe offering background harmonies. Although it worked well, it just didn’t fit right with the couple. Once the balance was found and both parties settled into their new and natural roles it was only then that West of Eden was born. In less than a year, after gigging the Dublin circuit and venues around the country, the duo were finally in the position to put some of their work down. Sifting through their repertoire of songs, they decided on the three tracks that would make up their debut EP ‘Everyday thing’. Recorded and co-produced by Karl Odlum (The Frames, Kila, Fionn Regan, etc), the EP was released in August of 2007 and has since been attracting much media attention. Since the release of their EP the duo has been requested to perform live on TV3’s ‘Ireland AM’ The debut single ‘Everyday thing’ has been used on a BBC Documentary ‘European Young Riders’. The documentary has also been broadcasted on ITV and is continuously repeated on Sky Sports Extra. Setanta Sports have also used the single ‘Everyday thing’ on one of their recent advertisements.
Here is what some people are saying about the music; "West of Eden have a fresh and unique sound. Combined with inspiring lyrics, they offer something brand new in Irish talent. They will go very far” Victoria O’ Brien, Producer, Ireland AM “This folksy outfit are launching a major charm offensive on our lugs this week. Cindy O' Keeffe's voice conjures up notions of the Beautiful South, while the shuffling drums, cellos and guitar are reminiscent of Herman Dune. Toe-tapping sensibilities pervade this excellently produced 3 track EP, allowing West of Eden to meander through their sunny melodies at their leisure". InDublin Magazine "A refreshing duo with real talent and a genuine flair for harmony. West of Eden's strength are great their lyrics and subtle music." Zoe Cummyns, Producer, Culture Shock, Newstalk FM "Their music is an extraordinary blend of melodic line and harmony. West of Eden is Ireland's answer to a Beautiful South – and I mean that as a complement!". Fionn Davenport, Culture Shock, Newstalk FM.
