THE WHATHAVEYA

Lebanon, OH

about +
A history of Rock icons: The Whathaveya,

Hailing from the garages of Lebanon, Ohio, The Whathaveya are poised to rocket to the top of the indie-pop scene in 2008 with their debut album, Explodes! Not new to Rock-n-Roll excess, the boys come from a respectable lineage of other great bands like The Muzzies, Orgygonerumble and My Latex Brain. Like the Stones in 68’ or the Beatles in 66’, B. Hoops (vox), Mike Belodayton (guitar, vox), Brandon Jent (bass, vox) and Paul Kennedy (drums, percussion) coalesce and bleed musical genius. The new record combines Hoops' easily “digested like a razorblade” lyrical hooks, Belodayton’s off-kilter guitar, and Kennedy's Bonham-like beats into quirky sing-a-longs that produce an album teeming with 15 ultra-catchy indie-pop gems.

Recorded entirely on their own terms in their studio bunker and free of industry know-it-all’s input, the Explodes! album is a no-compromise record harking back to the DIY days of honest rock-n-roll. In an attempt to create an album that they wanted to listen to, the band threw conventional recording techniques out the window and embarked on a musical journey to reconstruct the rock-n-roll landscape. Anything capable of making a sound may have been used somewhere within one of these 15 inspired tracks to spark some serious crowd pleasers. The boys wear their influences on their sleeves with songs reminiscent of legendary bands like STP, Led Zeppelin, QTSA and Brainiac. With standout tracks like "Black Kitty, and “Bright Lights, Fresh Eyes" look for The Whathaveya to be a major factor on the indie-pop landscape for years to come.
