Back in the early aughties, (2002-2005), Delaware's Young Vulgarians were one of the most unusual, eccentric... yet somehow poppy... bands on the East Coast, combining the emerging sounds of electroclash and the underground resurgence of post-punk dance music with experimental post-hardcore styles, and the revitalization of vintage soul. Their music was a vehicle for a strange philosophical conglomerate of Situationism, early 20th century nostalgia, DIY culture, and Frankfurt School rejection of mass culture. The band was perhaps most notorious for their bizarre and energetic live performances. Cash earned from previous shows and album sales was routinely thrown off stage, back into the audience.
