The electronic cigarette market in Italy

The “lifestyle” of Italians has changed considerably in recent years, gradually becoming more and more modern. We need only think, for example, of Italian society just ten or fifteen years ago to notice how it has changed profoundly, primarily thanks to technological and scientific progress. Today the information we possess, thanks in part to the great telematic network, is certainly higher than it used to be

And the benefits are readily apparent. Among the most characteristic features of today’s society, we note how a vast number of individuals have abandoned traditional cigarettes in favor of electronic cigarettes , which represent a choice that goes far beyond the fashions and trends of the moment. Just think of the positive environmental impact compared to traditional cigarettes, just to cite one of the many examples that could be mentioned.

Electronic cigarette market, the data of resounding success in our country

Over the past three decades, especially the current one, the electronic cigarette market has seen remarkable success. Also known as vape or e-cigs, they offer a wide range of choices from geekvape electronic cigarettes to others that have become familiar to the nearly two million Italians who use them.

The latest figures from 2023 testify, effectively, to how effervescent and on the rise the electronic cigarette market is. One number, in this sense, provides a clear fresco of the phenomenon in our country, which affects the entire Boot across the board: during the last year, there were 8,000 electronic cigarette stores in our country, with a growth of almost 1,000 units compared to the end of 2022.

Really significant numbers, which become impressive if we turn our gaze to the turnover of the sector. The electronic cigarette market in Italy is worth almost half a billion, with numbers up 10 percent from the previous year. Data even more significant if we consider that the “black market” of electronic cigarettes has a volume almost identical to the legal one, but it offers fewer protections on the quality of products and directly finances the criminal organizations present in our country.

At the moment, there are still significant steps to be taken to combat the electronic cigarette smuggling market, a step that should be taken, first and foremost, to protect the health of Italian citizens and to ensure more revenue for those who, online or through a “physical” store, operate in legality and respecting the regulatory framework imposed by our state in any respect.

The reasons why Italians are abandoning classic cigarettes in favor of electronic cigarettes

The reasons for the success of electronic cigarettes in our country are many. We have already mentioned the positive impact on the environment, since electronic cigarettes, unlike classic cigarettes, do not involve the process of combustion and do not release pollutants into the air, complying with the policies of ecological sustainability that the governments of developed countries, at every latitude, have been putting in place for several years now.

The electronic cigarette, however, is much more than that and offers a far more immersive experience than traditional cigarettes. Suffice it to think, for example, of the infinite choice in terms of flavorings, which range from the traditional “tobacco” to decidedly more appealing ones with exotic and fruity undertones, which are able to offer the experience with the world of smoking decidedly more personalized and satisfying.

It is not surprising, consequently, that a growing number of Italian smokers are turning their gaze toward the world of “vaping” by abandoning the “old” blondes, which, moreover, certainly do not leave a pleasant smell on the people who use them. The significant increase in the number of outlets dedicated to this sector, therefore, is the logical consequence of an increasing demand from Italian consumers, which is likely to grow in the coming years as well.
