ANNA GOLDSMITH is the latest talent to emerge from the management team that represent upcoming new blues trio Back Door Slam, and look after triple-platinum selling artist Corinne Bailey Rae. Just like her management mates, she is a truly distinctive singer songwriter, but her approach and sound is as different to them as they are to each other... Classically trained from an early age in both piano and voice, Anna spent a good part of her teenage years performing arias and taking part in operatic competitions on her home of the Isle of Man; her vocal range, incredible control and ability to write classic-sounding songs with a real longevity, are all testament to this well honed talent. Deciding she wanted to embark on a more contemporary career a few years ago, she shifted from entertaining Royalty with opera-style precision to introduce her own powerful material to a new audience. Since she started gigging her own songs, Anna has been reaching out to a rapidly growing fanbase with a live performance that comes straight from the heart. Her first major performance was in front of more than 1000 people, supporting KATIE MELUA; after the gig, a veritable scrum of eager new fans snapped up every copy of her first EP within minutes. 18 months later, with the imminent release of her excellent debut album, it's clear Anna's chosen the right path. Touching on influences ranging from classical artists like Bryn Terfel and Sumi Jo, to contemporary musicians Sarah McLachlan, Massive Attack and Zero 7, she puts her hard earned keyboard skills to use and blends a stunning vocal range with a sensitivity and warmth that grabs the coldest heart - but you couldn't put ANNA easily into one of these musical brackets herself - she is one of those rarities in today's overcrowded music market - genuinely talented and absolutely individual.
