Subtle is a collaboration of artists, producers, rappers, instrumentalists Adam ‘Dose One’ Drucker, Jeff ‘Jel’ Logan, Dax Pierson, Marty Dowers, Jordan Dalrymple and Alexander Kort. Jel and Dose also play together in the group Themselves (previously known just as Them) and are also part of the anticon collective. Alexander Kort has released CDs on anticon’s official web store run by astropitch. The others have also been involved with various other anticon projects in the past.

Subtle is signed to Lex Records (previously a sub label of Warp records but now a label of its own) on which they released the album ‘A new white’. Before this they had released the Summer EP (2001), Winter EP (2002), Autumn EP (2002) and the Spring EP (2003) on Doseone’s record label A Purple 100. Soon after the album on Lex, they released a CD collection of the EPs called Earthsick as the individual EPs are now out of print.

On February 24th, when the band was on a U.S. tour, their tour van crashed, causing Dax Pierson major injury. He broke his neck, meaning he was paralyzed and could not move his body. He is still recovering from this injury. (Dax’s MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/daxpierson)

Subtle plans to release a DVD on Lex soon this summer, collecting b-sides, live tracks, new tracks and videos for their music called ‘The Wishingbone’ as well as a brand new record soon after, entitled ‘For Hero For Fool’ which will be dedicated to Dax.

Aside from the above, there was also an artist called ‘subtle’ in the music scene of the old mp3.com days. This was a solo artist writing electronic music.
